Visit from our neighbours at Trawsfynydd
Last year we were fortunate to deploy ViridiScope on site, working with Doosan engineers on the ponds complex. After a successful trial we were delighted to host a team from Magnox keen to familiarise themselves with the operation of ViridiScope and in-situ counting equipment. Theirs was the first of a series of demonstrations we are holding at the workshop for Tier1 and Tier2 companies with an interest in our innovative nuclear characterisation tools

A novel remote deployment of ViridiScope®

The most recent demonstration of our laser sampling tool was on a pond wall at the NNL Non-Active Rig Hall

A novel remote deployment of ViridiScope® The challenge was to sample a pond wall from above, in a situation where it was not possible to use a robot. The answer was an extendable pole that was lowered down to the sampling point. The question was ‘how will we know the sampling head is in contact with the wall when we are sampling?’ The answer is easy. The sampling head has proximity sensors designed to control the laser power for safety reasons: if the head moves away from the surface, the laser cuts out. So, unless the head is in...

ViridiScan® successfully demonstrated on a nuclear site! Characterisation experts from site licence companies, the NDA and representatives from contractors working for the nuclear industry attended demonstrations of our new tool on site at Sellafield and in NNL’s Rig Hall, Workington.  We were delighted to show them how we can collect concrete with our laser sampling tool, ViridiScope®, and, within minutes, produce a solution suitable for analysis by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
